Anyone can take up walking with not much needed other then your legs and a craving for some fresh air. That is the best thing about walking, you can start at your own level and work onward from there, covering longer distances and tackling, perhaps more intense terrain.

Hills and Glens top tips

Start out where you’re comfortable. Maybe close to home, with familiar people at the same walking standard as you.

Plan your walk. Think or talk through your route, checking it on a map and noting anything near by that maybe of interest (historical monuments, shops, picnic areas etc).

Make sure you have a good kit to take with you, obviously this is going to vary weather your taking a small stroll or a longer more taxing hike.
Good essentials to take include, waterproofs, basic first aid kit, mobile phone, torch, compass and map.

Always tell someone your route and planned times to ensure your whereabouts is known.

Make sure you check the weather at the latest possible time and be aware of changing conditions.

Bring sufficient refreshments including lots of water.
