Never walk distances or on terrain that is out of your physical reach. Build up your fitness and skills slowly.

Make sure you can read your map and go over all possible routes and diversions on your proposed walk.

Bring everything you could possibly need (within reason!) on your walk, food water and suitable clothing a MUST!

Never leave the path or trail to make a shortcut.

When walking on the road obey the highway code, cross where safe and make yourself as visible to traffic as you can.

Have a first aid kit at all times and be able to use it! Keep it in a waterproof case and make sure it has the right contents for your needs inc. cuts, blisters, sprains possible broken bones etc.
